"You think that's something spooky, just wait..." narrates Count Chocula after an ominous crack of thunder begins the album. Oh Boy, he wasn't lying. And so we get The 13 Days of Halloween, a new album that gives us an ingenious synthesis of Halloween, dance music, television theme songs, rock 'n' roll, rap and – if I may be so bold – beat poetry. Count Chocula has established quite a name for himself in the cereal business, but now seems to be stepping up to the task of music producer here. Many critics were skeptical of Chocula's ability to produce a really good Halloween album. But Chocula's approach to such an endeavor was far more ambitious than any effort prior to this in the genre of "free inside" music. Chocula rose to the occasion and showed these skeptics why he is the most prolific of the monster cereal spokesmonsters, putting out cereal since the 80's when many of his competitors (Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy) went under.
