This is a lovely vintage biscuit tin that has an internal tin that spins around inside and gives the impression of being at a race track . The tin is a round shape with a small cut out rectangle in the front like a window , you turn the brass spindle at the top and the horses race around the track. The horses are all numbered and the second set of numbers at the bottom are the racing odds. The sides of the tin have colourful pictures of race goers, all dressed up in old styled clothes with a grandstand and old buildings in the back ground. The outside of the tin has The Winner, S.T. Leigh & Co. Pty. Ltd., Peak Frean [ Aust. ] Pty. Ltd. and Regd. Design Applied For printed in small letters. The side of the tin has Spin the inner container by means of the projecting spindle and the horse stopping in front of the post is " The Winner ". The odds are indicated in the squares below the horse printed in yellow. The inner part has S.T. Leigh & Co. Pty. Ltd printed at the bottom and Peak Frean Sydney printed on the lid in raised letters. Overall the tin is in good vintage condition and the colours are bright and clear. It has a shallow dint to the right of the window and the metal strip in the middle is slightly buckled. It has fine scratches and small rust type spots overall and a dint to the bottom edge. The internal tin has no dints, paint rubbing on the lid line in two places and it still has the old tape mark around the top. The lid has rust type spots under the paint, these don't show up on the inside of the lid and the bottom spindle has been neatly repaired. The tin still displays well and please use the pictures as part of the description and for the best detail. The tin is 145mm or 5 11/16" high x 175mm or 6 7/8" wide and weighs 615gms unpacked. I have just had a question from a fellow ebayer about the brass spindle...Is it original? I have had another look at the tin and the spindle appears to be the original one but there is a dob of solder under the lid. This could be original or it could be a repair, I have no way of knowing and I'm not sure on this point. Any Questions............Please Ask...........Thankyou.
